Section 20
Sergio Cornelio, the Everett City Clerk, announced item number 19 during a council meeting, a resolution concerning the Devin School lease negotiations spearheaded by Councilor John Hanlon. Due to the sensitive nature of the negotiations, an executive session, as allowed by General Laws Chapter 30A, Subsection 21A, Purpose 6, regarding open meeting laws, was declared necessary to avoid detriment to the city's negotiating position. The decision to hold this session was a continuation from the previous year when the matter was first addressed but not finalized, hence the continued involvement under Hanlon's name. Cornelio outlined that the session would include key city officials such as the chief financial officer, Eric Demas; chief of staff, Erin Devaney; superintendent of schools, Priya Tahiliani; chairman of the school committee, Michael Mangan; assessor Bernard Devereaux; and city solicitor, Colleen Mejia, to discuss and potentially decide on the lease amidst closed doors to maintain confidentiality and protect the city's interests.
